ABOUT Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) is an independent, nonprofit association that brings area leaders in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia together to address major regional issues and plan for the future. COG’s membership is comprised of 300 elected officials from 24 local governments, the Maryland and Virginia state legislatures, and U.S. Congress. Founded in 1957, COG helps its member governments turn their shared goals into action by coordinating on a wide range of focus areas, including transportation, the environment, community planning and services, and homeland security and public safety.
