About North Texas Municipal Water District

Organizational Overview

Organization Type: Political Subdivision of the State of Texas. ​Water Supply: NTMWD owns and operates Bois d’Arc Lake, the East Fork Reuse Project, and Trinity River Main Stem Pump Station. Additional permitted supply and contract water are held in Lake Bonham, Lake Texoma (USACE), Jim Chapman Lake (USACE), the Lake Tawakoni and Lake Fork system (Sabine River Authority), and numerous reuse permits. ​Population Served: 2.1 million residents with a service area population expected to double in the next 50 years. ​Water Users: Wholesale, treated water for cities, towns, water supply corporations, special utility districts and industrial users. ​Total Storage Volume: Approximately 1.1 million acre-feet. ​Key Issues/Challenges: Developing additional reliable water supplies, maximizing water supply potential from existing supplies, maintaining existing infrastructure, and advancing public water conservation behavior.
